Issues

What Readers Are Saying

“Issues by Sharon St. John follows the life of sisters Jessica and Renee, as well as their close friends, as they navigate the ups and downs of life and love.

Told in third-person omniscient view-point, the crew has equally complex and compelling story lines. Because of this unique point of view, readers are able to know the internal and external struggles of every character. I truly enjoy this aspect because I feel like I am reading many different stories but at the same time they all intertwine and weave together in an intricate way.

Overall, I enjoyed reading Issues. This realistic fiction novel has the immense ability to keep readers on their toes, entertain them, and teach some valuable life lessons all at the same time. While there were a few issues– no pun intended– with the writing style, the pros outweigh the cons and I highly recommend this book. Sharon St. John told her own story beautifully in the memoir Me, Myself, and Men and following suit she created this mind-blowing story with the same raw talent.”

Sharon St. John’s ‘Issues’ is one hell of a book! It is the story of a sisterhood of young black women including their relationships, issues and everything in between. This book has everything that makes an exceptional story, in nice little doses: drama, suspense, revenge, love etc. The plot twists are entertaining and believable – you are right there enjoying a love story and boom! The twist that leaves your mouth open and your imaginations running wild.

I like how the individual stories merge seamlessly into one big picture without excessive exaggerations and unreal tales. I believe this book is the stuff movies are made of. The story is concise, the theme consistent and the characters are real; people with different personalities that remained constant through the story. The attention to details of the author was apparent throughout the chapters.

One thing that stood out for me was the lack of exaggerated emotions; the different stages of drama and suspense were not unnecessarily stretched to snap. The description of the characters, places and events were so vivid. I honestly cannot wait to read more of what Sharon has up her sleeves.”

This story is a combination of beautifully weaved chapters, mingled characters, riveting incidents, some exciting suspense, along with some amazing lessons for life. With a neat scene description and a clear narrative style, the book easily grasps the undivided attention of the reader and makes it hard to pause. It is like a cinematic-philosophical-suspense-fiction thriller, that makes you smile, cry, angry and confused at different points. Reading this book turns patience into a great joy because Climax is worth the little wait.”
